APOLLO BAKOPOULOS is an award-winning Greek-American film director, producer, and screenwriter based in New York since 2010. His debut film, "ALIGNED," was officially selected for its European premiere at the BFI Flare London LGBTQ+ Film Festival. Apollo won the Best Producer award at the Brooklyn Film Festival, "Human Times'', where his film had its world premiere. "ALIGNED" received the Best Foreign Feature award at the Unleashed LGBTQ Festival/Conference in Texas and at the Rio LGBTQA International Film Festival. Additionally, it won the Kim Renders Memorial Award for Best Lead Performance at the Reel-out Queer Film Festival in Kingston, Canada.
Apollo worked as a cinematographer in London for three years. His work has since taken him worldwide, creating spots, commercials, and shorts in locations like London, Paris, New York, and Hawaii. He has collaborated with the award-winning artists Dan Kneece, best known for his work on ''Mulholland Drive'' and ''Blue Velvet''. He continues to forge ahead, using film as a tool to represent LGBTQ+ in mainstream media.
Themes of transformation, sensuality, and beauty are often seen in Apollo's work. His vision is to maintain a safe space for empowerment, exploring identity, sexuality, and self-acceptance, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. One of his key goals as an artist is to normalize diversity, offer positive role models that embrace a healthy self-image, and encourage authentic expression. As a life coach in cognitive and various life strategy modalities, Apollo practices and shares techniques of meditation, journaling, spending time in nature, yoga, and breath-work.
